Hey, guys! So today is a special one for me. Today is actually my thirtieth birthday. I’ll be spending this day celebrating with my family and taking some time to relax, probably fishing or reading on the beach.
Make sure you also take some time to rest and relax. There’s a lot going on in the world at the moment. A lot that’s easy to get stressed or anxious about. It’s easy sometimes to look around at all the chaos and forget how blessed we are. Or to forget who our God is. How capable and trustworthy He is. So I wanted to share some verses I personally use as reminders of who God is when I forget how to trust Him.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19

This is such a hopeful verse. We serve a God of new things. New beginnings. He isn’t deterred by any of the things we’re living through right now. And He hasn’t given up on your story because of any of them either. Believe God for the new things He wants to do in your life and trust Him to do them.
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

We serve a big God. A capable God. Our God is capable of so much more than we normally give Him credit for. Look at the end of that verse: “according to the power at work within us.” Whose power is that? It’s God’s. How great is that power? Great enough to create the world and everything and everyone in it. Great enough to defeat the death and sin that we invited into it. It’s great enough to rewrite a tragedy into a happy ending and to know the ending from before the beginning ever even started.
Pray big prayers and listen for the answers. If He’s told you something, believe it. Have faith. He’s working. And He’s doing more than you think.
“God is not man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it?” Numbers 23:19

This one is a favorite reminder of mine. Our God is not a man. He doesn’t lie. He doesn’t change His mind. If He’s said it, He’ll do it. He’ll fulfill it. There’s another verse in Isaiah 55 that says that His words don’t return back to Him void. They’re never spoken without being fulfilled. The very moment that God speaks something, it’s fact. No changing. Know your God. Trust Him. Take Him at His word.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17

This verse goes right along with the previous one. God doesn’t change His mind. He won’t tell you one thing and then do another. Believe Him when He says something to you. Whether an answer to a prayer or the very core of your walk with Him. You’re forgiven. It’s finished. Once He speaks, that’s it. He’s unchanging. And He’s here to give you good and perfect gifts. He knows what you need and He knows what you don’t. So rest assured, if He’s giving you something, it’s for your good. And if He says no to something, thank Him. He’s saving you from something you can’t quite see yet. Something you may never see.
“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

This one hits especially well for right now. There is so much going on in the world, in so many nations. But our God sits higher than our highest earthly authorities. He’s seen the beginning from the end. He maintains control, even when the world looks wildly out of control. Not a single thing happens outside of His notice. So we can be still. We can rest. We can remember that He is God. He is higher than the nations. He is sovereign over anyone else on the earth. This has become a bit of a mantra for me lately. He is God alone. He’s sovereign over all. Nothing is outside His scope of authority. If you’re scared or stressed or just flat-out confused about what’s going on in the world, rest in the knowledge that God isn’t. He’s in control. Still yet. And He’s not giving up that control even for a second.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

God says this over the Israelites who are in exile. They saw no future for themselves. No hope. But God knew what He had planned for them. A great future that would lead to the salvation of the entire world.
This verse is quoted a lot to say that God will give you whatever you want. Because they’re plans for good, right? So it must make me happy.
But it says God knows the plans He has for you. They’re good plans, yes, but they may be something you’ve never even thought of before. But God did. And He knows they’re good. He works for His glory and our good. Trust Him. Trust His judgment. He has good plans for you.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7

One of the reasons I love this verse as a reminder to trust God is because it shows that He knows we’ll be scared. We’ll have moments where we have to be reminded that fear is going to show up. But that fear is also a spirit. It’s something we can reject and replace with God’s Spirit. Replace fear with the power of God. With the love of God. With the self-control that God’s Spirit affords us. We can choose to believe God’s power when we’re scared He can’t do it. We can choose to love others when we’re scared that showing love will only leave us vulnerable. We can choose self-control when fear makes us feel totally out of control and like we have to grasp for whatever control we can find in a situation.
We can trust God to be our greatest defense and offense in any situation because we have His Spirit and it’s full of power, full of love, and fully affording us control over our actions and reactions.
“The Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to Me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward.” Exodus 14:15

This one I feel might require some context. In this part of Exodus, Pharaoh has just agreed to free the Israelites. And as they’re leaving Egypt, Pharaoh changes his mind and pursues Israel to the edge of the Red Sea. The Israelites are cornered. They’re crying out to God. They’re complaining to Moses that God brought them here to die. They’re scared and they see no way out.
And then Moses tells the people to be quiet, stop complaining, and trust God to fight for them. “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today.” And then God tells Moses to tell the people of Israel to go forward. Towards the Red Sea where they can’t cross. Because God has another way up His sleeve. He has Moses lift his staff and hold his hands out over the water and the people walk across the sea on dry land and then the sea comes back together and sweeps away the Egyptians. God worked salvation for them exactly as He said He would.
And I love verse 15 specifically because God looks at Moses and goes “why are you crying to Me? Move forward.” Go forward like you trust Me to come through. I wrote a whole post about this idea a while back if you want to read it more in depth. But I just love this idea of God looking at us and saying you have everything you need in Me. Keep moving forward.
Go forward like you trust Him to come through. Because He will.
So obey when God tells you to do something. Anything He’s asking you to do, He’ll make it go exactly as He wills it to. Believe Him. Our God still speaks. He’s still working. Still doing new things. Still coming through.
I hope this post helps you find some new verses to help you remember to trust God. Leave a comment with some of your favorite verses too. I’d love to read them!
