When My Heart is Overwhelmed: Seven Verses For When Life Feels Out of Control

Hey, I’m finally back. Life got a little crazy for a second there and what was supposed to be just two months off turned into four. It was well needed though and I’m excited to be back here, sharing the things I’m learning in my own walk with God. I wanted to do a more simple post this month. Reminders that we all need sometimes, especially when there’s a lot going on around us and things start to feel out of control.

"From the ends of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint. Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I."

Psalm 61:2

These are some verses that help me to put my craziness in perspective. What feels so out of control for me is still perfectly in control for God. Nothing is too hard for Him. Nothing throws Him off. Nothing confuses, scares, or stumps Him.

"Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!"

Psalm 105:1

Our God is all-powerful. He’s in control, even when nothing looks like it’s under any kind of control. He is steadfast. He’s done wonderful things, keeping perfect track of plans He’s had made since before the beginning of time. He keeps us on the right path. He still does great things today. And it’s our job to remind other people of that too. To let our lives be a testimony of how great our God is.

"O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You; I will praise Your name; for You have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure."

Isaiah 25:1

Our God is good.

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You."

Psalm 56:3

Our God is trustworthy.

"Let me hear in the morning of Your steadfast love, for in You I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul."

Psalm 143:8

Our God is all-knowing.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."

Proverbs 3:5-6

Whatever you’re concerned about today, whatever you’re struggling with, give it to Him. Remember that He’s still in control. He’s still good. And He’s still doing great things. He is fully capable of taking your situation, whatever it might be, and working it together for good.

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."

Romans 8:28
