Hey, are you having a good summer? It feels like it’s flying by. I can’t believe it’s already almost August. I have a question for you this month. Do you ever feel like your work isn’t important? Like there are more important things in the world to be done than whatever it is you’re doing? What if that work was given to you by God to do? What if He chose you specifically for it? Because He did. We’re working for God, each of us. To please Him, to use the gifts He’s given us, to further His kingdom. We each have something different to contribute and it’s all important.

I am a writer through and through. I’ve always used writing as an outlet and it’s always been the way that I’m best able to get my thoughts across. It gives me the opportunity to get it from my brain to my fingers and see it all laid out on paper. As much as I love it though, sometimes it can feel unimportant. Like there are other things I could be doing or like it might not be worth it to pursue. Like I wouldn’t actually be making any kind of difference by my own writing.

I’m also a reader though. I love stories. I love getting to live in a new world for a little while and seeing how authors can create such vivid worlds and characters that feel so real. I aspire to that level of writing. To characters who feel so real you could be friends with them. Worlds that make you want to visit them. Stories are important. You can see yourself in them, come to know yourself better. Or you can understand someone else’s experience better. And even more than that, if God has given me writing as a gift, as a work to do, then I want to pursue it.

Maybe someone else needs to hear this. If you do, let this be a reminder to you as well that this is all for God and nothing else matters. If God’s given you a work to do then it is important. Maybe your work will help someone else, inspire them. Maybe it will bring them closer to God or comfort them in whatever they’re going through. But it can’t do that if you don’t do your part.

I pray that this helps you stay on track with your work, remembering that we’re working in partnership with God. Everything we do is in partnership with Him. That’s literally all that matters. Not anyone else’s thoughts on whether it’s important or not. Not even your own in comparison. This is all for Him. Work with intention. With discipline. With the understanding that it’s all to please our Creator. It’s all in collaboration with Him.

How amazing is that? That our God would choose to work so closely with us all the time. Whenever I get stuck in writing stories, it’s usually a sign that I need to give it back to God to work it out. Whenever I bring Him a stuck plot or a tangled scene, He helps me fix it. He gives me what I need in due time to work out what this character needs or what that scene is missing.
He does the same thing with this blog too. When I’m struggling to figure out what to write for one of these posts, He always gives me the inspiration for exactly what to write. He’ll let me play around with an idea, turning it over in my head for a few days before I even realize what it is and then He’ll let it click into place. But I have to seek Him first. I have to be reminded that this is a work I do with Him. My creativity comes from my Creator. He gives us that ability as a gift to join with Him in the work of creation.

What are you struggling with today? Do you have a work that you need to figure out? Or a piece of your own life? Bring it to Him. Remember that this whole life is in partnership with God. We’re working for Him, living for Him. With Him. Bring your confusions, your tangled thoughts, and your biggest fears to Him. He’s got the answers you need. Seek Him first and trust that everything else will follow.
