Hey, I hope you’ve all had a great April. Ours was busy and a bit chaotic but it’s been fun, too, with traveling to see family and birthdays coming up. This past month too I’ve also had this nudge to get back into the habit of regular Bible studies. I’ve gotten out of it a bit lately.
I was reading in Luke the other day and found the reminder He knew I needed most at the moment. Maybe you do too.
“And He said to His disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?
Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.”
Luke 12:22-31

I am very prone to anxiety. It comes much more naturally to me to be anxious than not. But God promises that we don’t have to be. He sees our fears and He doesn’t scold us for them. He calms them. He tells us that He knows we’re anxious, He knows we’re scared, and He knows we have very real needs that must be met. But He promises to take care of all of that. To clothe us, feed us, and provide for us as the children He loves.
The passage continues in verses 32-34 to say,
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
He calms us again. Fear not, little flock. He says it is His good pleasure to provide for us. The same way a parent gets great joy out of knowing their children are well taken care of. It reminds me of my godkids. My best friend, their mom, always gets on me about spending money on them. I would almost always rather get or make something for them before myself. It gives me great joy to see them happy and taken care of. And I’m not even their mom. As much as she scolds me for it, she’s worse. She would rather go without for herself to make sure they have everything they need and more.

And our Father is the same. The only difference is that He’s self-sufficient and His storehouses are endless so there’s never any question of whether there are enough resources to provide for all of His children.
What are you anxious about today?
Give it to your Father. Tell Him all about it and let Him comfort you with the truth of His love and care. He may not provide the way you expect Him to, but know that He will always make sure you’re taken care of the way you need to be. Sometimes that looks like an overflow of blessings. Sometimes it looks like missing out. But know that He is God in both. He is good in both. He is the same loving Father in both.
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. Stay in His word. Listen to His voice. Trust Him to lead you and to care for you as the loving and capable Father that He is. Keep your heart focused on Him as the true treasure and He’ll take care of everything else.
